In our recently built West St Paul dental clinic, we designed a 5,000 sq. ft. space with 12 dental operatories. A strong dental office floor plan balances patient comfort with staff efficiency while maximizing revenue. Key considerations include operatories placement, waiting room size, and patient flow. Our strategy prioritizes the number of operatories over large waiting areas because each operatory directly contributes to revenue.
Pro tip: plan your operatories first and calculate the optimal waiting room size at 1.5 to 2 times the number of chairs.
Key Rooms and Patient Flow in a Dental Clinic

Our floor plan includes separate patient and staff restrooms, a panoramic radiograph room just before the operatories, and a sterilization room with distinct entry and exit to prevent bottlenecks. Mechanical and storage rooms are soundproofed and positioned for efficiency. We also designed a separate patient entry and exit to maintain smooth traffic flow and reduce conflicts. The layout ensures optimal placement of dentist rooms, wet labs, and assistant stations while keeping operatories central for maximum productivity.

The West St Paul office combines functionality with comfort for patients and staff. Our break room doubles as a meeting and event space, while patient areas are designed for smooth transitions from check-in to treatment. By focusing on operatories, workflow, and patient flow, this floor plan supports high-volume practice while maintaining compliance and efficiency. Proper planning of each room and flow ensures a dental clinic that is both profitable and pleasant for everyone involved.
